CME for Hospitalists

Did you accumulate enough CME and MOC points for this year yet?

To be reported as participating in MOC or to stay board certified, ABIM wants you to earn 100 points every 5 years apart from passing the MOC exam every 10 years.

Here are the most commonly used sources of CME and MOC for hospital medicine.

Some CME programs give Amazon or Apple gift card depending on the offers available at the time you buy the CME. CME can be obtained either in Internal Medicine or Hospital medicine. There are a few international destinations for CME which probably are not recommended for a few more months with current situation.

UpToDate: Every time you search and read, you get CME and MOC points. Make sure that you are logged in to your personal UpToDate account though when you search something. If you are accessing at work, Log out from hospital account and log in again with your own account and CME accumulates in your own account in hospital computers. You have to answer some easy questions to claim the CME credits and you can also submit MOC points from their website directly to ABIM. You can buy a multi-year subscription if you need to spend more of your CME money before it expires.

Books: Some doctors buy medical text books to read and get CME.

Attending live Conferences and buying and listening to streaming lectures from them from any of the big medical conferences such as ACP, SHM etc. gives plenty of CME.

Cleveland clinic journal CME

Several online sources: MKSAP, MedStudy, ACP, NEJM knowledge plus, NEJM opioids give you 10 CME credits for free, UWorld question bank, Medmastery.

Mayo Clinic Update in Internal Medicine and also Mayo clinic has a lot of online CME courses.

Audio digest subscription. You get a huge gift card to amazon ($500-1500 depending on what you buy).

Oakstone CME: They offer Amazon gift card too.

www.americanseminar.com: Their Full Course gives 20 AMA PRA Category I Credits and short course gives 10 AMA PRA Category I Credits.

MOC dues to ABIM: We can prepay our MOC dues up to 10 years. Internal Medicine or Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine Traditional MOC Exam is $650 every 10 years.

The women physicians wellness conference in Grand Cayman: One can get upto 12 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Registration fee of $1650 until Aug 1st, then $1750 thereafter. Per their website, you can listen to speakers on burnout, wellness, and resilience on Grand Cayman Island to share their stories and strategies on building and sustaining wellness as you advance in your medical career.

Board vitals online question bank either in Internal Medicine or Hospital medicine or any specialty of your choice. They give Amazon or Apple gift card.

SHM Spark online questions: Per SHM website, this is created by hospitalists, for hospitalists, Spark Edition 2 is the only study tool you need to ace the Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine (FPHM) exam. Featuring 450+ vignette-style multiple-choice questions that you can answer from your smartphone, tablet or desktop. JAMA podcasts and then answer the three online questions and that gives 0.5 credits.

ACP has podcasts like Bedside rounds, Core IM, Annals on call that give CME and MOC.

Child abuse, Opioid, Patient safety-burnout and suicide prevention: www.PA.CME.EDU costs $145 for 16 mandatory CME hours for Pennsylvania medical license renewal once you answer 65 questions after reading their material.

International:

Many hospitals only reimburse for conferences in continental USA. Some hospitals reimburse International CME if AMA category 1 credit and if organized by an American company.

Continuingeducation.net: These may not be very favorable at this time due to pandemic.

MER – they have lots of international CMEs for primary care primarily. They have conferences for different specialties like endocrine, cardiology, pulmonary etc.

Child Abuse CME: 3 Credit hours from NetCE for $24.
